I've made quite a bit of progress over the past 24 hours on the new code. I know it's taken longer than I had originally expected, but progress is still being made - I promise! I've also had a lot of time to think about the direction the code is going and I believe everyone will love it.

    How much progress, exactly?

Visually, not much. I haven't worked on the visual aspects of the new site yet... but it will look similar to the current site. As for the HTML, it will be completely updated and will be easier to read. Behind the scenes, the code has been rewritten completely. It runs faster and smoother than the current code and can be altered to add new functionality in hours rather than months. Once I finish, I will be able to add new things to the site as soon as I think of them.

    What exactly will be added?

    • Images in signatures
    • Screenshots section - yes, it's really coming!
    • Ability to post articles to your profile
      • Will act like your own personal blog... you choose what you add to it
      • Will appear in the forum and can be commented on by everyone
    • Friend / Buddy system
    • More account settings
      • More themes
      • Clean mode - bare minimum - for slow connections and hand-helds
    • Guilds
      • More details coming soon
    • Better ranking system
    • Email reminders when you're absent for an extended period of time
    • Better search function
      • Search for members, posts, and guides

How much faster is the new code?

The current code loads the homepage in approximately 0.5 seconds. The new code loads the homepage in approximately 0.01 seconds. Although the new code isn't fully functional, I believe it will still run quite a bit faster than the current code. Besides, I have the template system up and running and it's running 50 times faster still!

When will the new code be implemented??

I'm not going to give a date simply because I don't know when. I will, however, let you know as soon as I know. My hopes are it will be ready before the next sugar rush release.

Very nice, but I feel like nobody's coming here to put this stuff to use. If you finish this stuff and SR still isn't out, you could add another purpose to the site, or something. Like instead on an SR, make it a gaming in general site (well, maybe not that. That's a HUGE leap). Of course, that takes the focus off SR...

I'm thinking about adding Guilds in right away once I publish the new site... so once I finish the basic stuff we have already, I'll work on that... and that'll allow for smaller communities to build. Like... similar to Profil3... but with the same layout. I don't like to separate things like that. They belong together. So then Caffeine could have their own community on Sugar Rush and invite people to join it. They could participate in their own discussions as well as their own guild's discussions. I'm not sure exactly how I'll make it work... but I will do it
